Chinatowns in Transition:
Portland, Seattle & Vancouver
Last summer the Council collaborated with Professor Anne
Fulton and her PSU summer Capstone Chinese American history class to
explore the nature of the Chinese American community in Portland in
1905, when a World Exposition was held here. The project resulted in
an exhibit on World Cultures Day at the Oregon Historical Society.
This summer, we are partnering again and will look at Chinese communities
in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver from historical and contemporary
perspectives. Capstone students will present their findings on August
17.
We invite you to attend the presentation, which will also serve as
a forum for discussing Portland’s Chinese community, past and
present.
