CHINA BUSINESS
NETWORK PRESENTS
"Understanding the RMB and Managing Trade Risks"
with Chris Fernandes and Steve Herrick
Even before the Shanghai Stock Exchange's recent plunge
triggered a global sell-off, the relationship between the US and Chinese
economy was known by many to be tightly linked. Chris Fernandes and
Steve Herrick from Bank of the West will explore the implications of
this relationship from the perspective of trade and revaluation of the
RMB (ren min bi), provide insight on the factors that make hedging against
RMB risk unique among global currencies, and describe the tools that
are used on the ground to manage this risk.
Chris Fernandes, Vice President with Bank of the West's
Foreign Exchange Department, has been with the Bank of the West for
10 years, and serves as the Bank's corporate advisor for foreign exchange.
Chris also writes a weekly FX newsletter and participates in bi-weekly
conference calls during which he presents an overview of the FX markets
to hundreds of bank officers spanning 19 states.
Steve Herrick is a Vice President with Bank of the
West's Global Trade Services unit and is the bank's trade consultant
for commercial business relationships. Steve has worked in international
finance and trade related positions since 1981 and has managed both
operations and lending units. He is active in various international
trade organizations in Northern California and is a frequent lecturer
on trade related topics.
