CHINA BUSINESS NETWORK PRESENTS

China: Supplier, Competitor, Partner and Opportunity - Managing Conflicting Facets and Attitudes in the Global Wood Products Industry

With Phill Guay of Columbia Forest Products

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Although not as heralded as the electronics or apparel industries, the shift in the hardwood plywood industry has been just as pronounced. Since 2002, China has grown from non-existent to supplying over 50% of North America’s total consumption.

Mr. Phill Guay of Columbia Forest Products will speak from the perspective of North America’s largest manufacturer, evolving from questioning China’s ability to compete to utilizing China as a source of plywood, and ultimately an acquisition and new market opportunity. He will discuss managing not just operations but attitudes, and most importantly, what lies ahead.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

As Columbia’s Vice President of Corporate Strategy, Phill Guay has been responsible for the launch of several new industry altering products and initiatives including the commercialization of PureBond™, the industry’s first cost-neutral formaldehyde-free plywood.

Guay is involved in expanding Columbia’s growing global presence ranging from acquisition to the integration of global manufacturing operations and sales. Most recently he had been responsible for exploring investments in China plywood operations to complement the existing supply network, and opening the China market for product sale opportunities. Prior to joining Columbia, Guay was an independent strategy consultant, after a lengthy career as an executive in the banking industry.
