ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

This presentation will include an overview of recent activities in Portland’s Old Town / Chinatown, including development projects planned and currently underway, and will highlight opportunities and challenges in future real estate development in the area. The program will also include a discussion of how best to seek interest from Chinese investors and businesses.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Peter Englander – Portland Development Commission

Peter is the Development Manager of the Downtown Waterfron Urban Renewal Area. Peter was the lead project manager on recently completed notable Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified projects in Portland, including the University of Oregon’s Portland Center at the White Stag Building and Mercy Corps World Headquarters, as well as the nationally recognized RiverEast Center, a project that matched a public boathouse with two corporations in one building, and also resulted in Portland’s first treatment of public stormwater on private property.

Peter came to PDC after six years as the chief financial officer of The Nantahala Outdoor Center; and was a vice president at The Balcor Company in Chicago, IL. Peter grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio and has an MBA from DePaul University and a BS in Finance and Economics from Indiana University.

Sarah Harpole – Portland Development Commission

Sarah is a Senior Project Coordinator in the Downtown Waterfront and River District Urban Renewal Areas, and has held several positions at PDC since first joining the agency in 2000. Most recently, she has been focusing on redevelopment in Old Town / Chinatown, including working with the Chinese community and other stakeholders to complete the North Old Town / Chinatown Redevelopment Strategy.

While at PDC Sarah has also negotiated a development agreement for the reuse of an industrial warehouse to create the RiverEast Center, an award-winning Gold LEED Certified project which brought over 200 jobs to the Central Eastside, and is home to the Portland Boathouse. Sarah attended the University of Oregon where she received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies. This passion for working with diverse communities to influence their surroundings continues to influence her work today.
