Movie Night -- A View of Portland (2009)
A Chinese film crew visited Portland last summer aiming to shoot enough images for a 20-minute clip for a travel series. But higher-ups at Jiangsu Broadcasting Corp. enjoyed the Portland snippets so much they ultimately split nearly two hours of film into five episodes.
Our usual Chinese Movie Night fare shows Chinese society and culture through Chinese cinema. This entertaining documentary, featuring local residents, reverses this, showing Chinese people, at least the Portland version of, life in America.
Come join the Northwest China Council for this intriguing look at how the Chinese people see us.
Jenny Dong and Liying Zheng, of Portland-based Pacific Education and Cultural Exchange Center, co-producers of the documentary will be joining us to introduce the film.
In color. Mandarin, with English subtitles.
The movie is preceded by a four course Chinese dinner, with soup and appetizers.
