Transparent or Not The Corner Gallery of Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, Oregon presents Hsueh Wei’s new work Transparent or Not: A Visual Art & Cross-Cultural Study of Contemporary Urban China from March 4 to April 3, 2011. This project focuses on a specific women’s style of footwear, to explore the aesthetic preferences, philosophical beliefs, and cultural characteristics of contemporary urban China. In addition, this project portrays the work force of “made in China” in the phenomenon of globalization within the backdrop of China’s urbanization. Hsueh Wei will give a lecture on her work on March 9, 2011, 12:30pm in Room 101 at PNCA. Hsueh Wei is a visual artist working in multiple mediums, including but not limited to photography, performance, sculpture and installation. She was born and raised in Taiwan by her Chinese immigrant parents. She moved to the U.S. after graduating from college in Taiwan. Hsueh holds a BFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a MFA degree in Art Photography from Syracuse University. Hsueh exhibits nationally and internationally and is on the faculty of Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon.
